The ICO-WHO Symposia are co-organized by the WHO Collaborating Center on Tobacco Control/Tobacco Control Unit (UCT) of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Tobacco Control Unit at ICO develops research projects and interventions to control tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke in the population. Tobacco control is one of the priority topics of the Catalan Health Plan as well as of the Oncology and Respiratory Diseases Plans in Catalonia. We therefore aim the projects developed at our Unit have impact on the prevention and tobacco control in our immediate environment (ICO), as well as at the national and international level.
Since 2009 the ICO Tobacco Control Unit is collaborating with the WHO Tobacco Free Initiative at WHO headquarters in Geneva, the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer, and the WHO Regional Office for Europe. Since March 2015 the UCT-ICO is a designated WHO Collaborating Center on Tobacco Control.
